comfort food: bak hoo toast

nothing makes me happier on a wintry morning than a huge chunk of freshly toasted bread, buttered, covered with bak hoo & drizzled with condensed milk. probably not the healthiest breakfast option but sure makes me warm and fuzzy inside!

what do you eat when you miss home?

YAyyyyy!! :) of course it won't be as yums dear! but im just amazing that you're able to buy it online!

is anybody visiting you from home? you can get them to bring it up for you!

p.s. i tried shipping from singapore to USA before! the bak-kwa made it, the regular bah-hoo made it but not the crispy bah-hoo. very odd but totally worth the effort!!

comfort food
Hi, it was nice to come across your blog. i am also a singaporean, having been living in the middle east for a few years now. i have not been able to go home this year for CNY so today, after feeling a little homesick and mildly depressed, i went to the only place here i could think of that sells singaporean food - Breadtalk! will be having chicken floss bread (no pork)for breakfast tmr :)

its so yummy! i feel sorry for the rest of the world that doesn't appreciate it. my american room-mates used to think they look like lint! :) hahaha.

that's the view of my concrete jungle from my living room! mildly depressing. i'll take a beach view anyday!

i made peanut sesame noodle last night cause i'm missing asian food. and for new year, I made (read: force) my husband ate fried bee hoon, san bei ji and steamed tofu. Not exactly the kind of dish one eats in a meal, but i just miss eating chinese food so much!
now, if only i can find that dumpling skin so i can make guo tie!

oh yeah, talking about soup, i miss those double boiled chicken soups from din tai fung.

san bei ji = 3 cup chicken; i ate this couple of times in singapore. I made it following this recipe http://appetiteforchina.com/recipes/taiwanese-three-cup-chicken
it's good :)

speaking of which, your beouf bourguignon post inspired me to make the same, but I used an adaptation of anthony bourdain's recipe (much simpler, and taste as good).

hey, why don't you post your kitchen escapades some times ;)

OH!!!! :) sorry my chinese is not as impressive as before! :) actually i was never that good in my mother tongue!

yes.. kitchen tales! truth is, we don't cook as often in the weekdays and when we do, i always forget to whisk out the camera!! :) but thanks for the inspiration! i will remember! :)

p.s. if you don't mind, share the anthony bourdain recipe!:) i've been put off by the multi-steps and have not made it ever since!!

Anyway, this one is much easier..

apparantly some of the taller apartments in shinjuku has a peek of fuji on a good day. how cool is that!!!

teehee.. i've yet to see fuji-san (as they call it here!) but its so funny that you saw it on the plane. were you intentionally looking out of the plane??
